IdentityIQ Update for Tomcat (10.1 & 11) and Jakarta EE

At SailPoint, our goal is to support the latest two LTS (Long Term Support) versions of an application server for each of our major IdentityIQ releases.

Customer feedback has shown a desire for IdentityIQ to support Apache Tomcat 10.1 & 11, which are dependent on IdentityIQ becoming a Jakarta EE application. While Tomcat 10 was released in 2020, not all of our supported application servers, which includes Oracle WebLogic, JBoss EAP, and IBM WebSphere Liberty, were Jakarta EE compatible at the time.

We have now reached a point where all application servers supported by IdentityIQ are Jakarta EE compatible, enabling us to move forward with upgrading IdentityIQ to support Jakarta EE, and as a result, Tomcat 10.1 and 11.

While Jakarta EE compatibility will not be a part of our upcoming IdentityIQ 8.5 release, it is a key priority for us and is on our roadmap for the next major version of IdentityIQ. We are actively working on this transition. It is also important to note that Tomcat 9 has a healthy, thriving community and is still supported by Apache, with a usual support life being around 10 years, giving Tomcat 9 an estimated support schedule until 2027.
